Kreuzkapelle und Jakobsweg zu Neuerburg
Neuerburg
The baroque Chapel of the Cross is located on the hillside to the east of the town of Neuerburg. It has three carved altars by Master Hubert Litge, built between 1707 and 1720. In the vestibule there is a funeral group by sculptor Johann Hess from Neuerburg. According to tradition, a small house of prayer is said to have stood here as early as 1619.
A hermitage stood on a small hill near the chapel, which was inhabited by several hermits until 1783. The Way of the Cross leading to the chapel was built in 1896.
The Chapel of the Cross is located on the historic Way of St. James from Cologne to Trier.
