Kyll Valley Cycle Route

Hellenthal-Losheimergraben

The Kyll Valley Cycle Route accompanies the Kyll from its source at the Belgian border to where it flows into the Moselle and continues for 14 km along with the Moselle Cycle Route to Trier. It sticks predominantly to designated, traffic-free paths.

The Kyll Valley Cycle Route extends the whole length of the Eifel region from Dahlem to Trier, the oldest town in Germany. Because it runs parallel to the Cologne-Trier railway line, there is an easy way for you to return to where you started. The long-distance route passes numerous castles as it follows the twists and turns of the River Kyll through the various parts of the region. Beginning in the northern Eifel, you cycle past reservoirs, lakes and those that fit both descriptions, such as the Lake Kronenburg. It's then on through the ancient volcanic landscapes of the Vulkaneifel, followed by the meadow orchards and rugged rock formations in the southern Eifel and the countryside outside Bitburg. A real insiders' tip is the Limestone Eifel Cycle Route, which runs 20 kilometres from Hillesheim to Ahrdorf and links the Kyll Valley Cycle Route with the Ahr Valley Cycle Route.

Please note:
Due to work along the Trier-Cologne railway line, there may be short-term detours along the cycle route. These will be signposted on site.

We recommend the alternative route:
From Bitburg-Erdorf, follow the Nims-Kyll connection to the town of Bitburg and from there continue along the Nims, Prüm, Sauer and Moselle cycle paths to your destination in Trier. The route from Erdorf to Trier is approx. 65 kilometres long. There is a signpost in Erdorf indicating the alternative route.

You can find an overview in the pdf file.

The fresh mineral water comes from a depth of approx. 90 m and can be drunk free of charge from April-October from the brass tap. Here it is worth taking a break and the park is ideal for a small picnic in nature.

Campingpark Kronenburger See

Water paradise

The campsite on Lake Kronenburg, newly built in 2004, is located not far from the well-known picturesque artists' village of Kronenburg, on the shores of Lake Kronenburg. In the charming landscape of the Eifel (between the volcanic and northern Eifel, near the Eifel National Park), campers can forget the stress of everyday life and relax.

Only an hour's drive from the centers of Cologne, Bonn and Aachen, the campsite is easily accessible and at the same time quietly located.
Modern sanitary facilities and individually rentable family bathrooms allow you to almost forget the comfort of your "four walls" at home.

The existing leisure facilities on the lake (boat hire, mini golf, tennis, water climbing park, water slide, beach with sunbathing area) as well as the facilities on the site (children's playground and fishing jetty) offer fun for young and old. However, fishing is only permitted again from 2019.
The campsite is open all year round and is the starting point for interesting and varied day trips, e.g. to the Nürburgring, the Ardennes Center in Losheim, Krippana, Euro Technica, Kaffee Paradies, Phantasialand in Brühl, Dahlemer Binz Airport, Prüm, Gerolstein, Bitburg or Belgium, which is only 8 km away.

Sports enthusiasts will find numerous opportunities for swimming, surfing, sailing or fishing on the lake. In winter, they are drawn to the neighboring winter sports areas of the Weißer Stein (Udenbreth, approx. 10 km or Hollerath approx. 15 km), the Schwarzer Mann or the famous Wolfsschlucht gorge.
