Nat'Our Route 1 - Dreiländereck
Tintesmühle
This hike in the NaturWanderPark delux truly runs through the heart of Europe.
The water sparkles. In umpteen small cascades it jumps splashing over the brightly polished pebbles. It is a beautiful bed that the Our has made for itself. For hundreds of thousands of years, it has carved its winding valley into the slate and graywacke blankets of the Islek - sometimes narrow and steep, sometimes a bit wider with floodplain groves and lush meadows. Then the sun peeks down to the valley floor, tugging at the dewdrops and bringing comforting warmth. Its rays penetrate the clear stream and you can spot trout scurrying nimbly upstream.
The Nat'Our Route 1 starts at the European Monument in the border triangle of Luxembourg, Germany and Belgium. Simple and symbolic, the monument commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Rome in March 1957 and the founders of the European Community.
On its further course, the Our forms the border between Luxembourg and Germany. On the circular trail you follow the Our first southwards on the German side, cross it at Tintesmühle and then accompany it again northwards on the Luxembourg side to the start. Except for the ascent and descent to Königslay, the trail remains in the valley.
Overcoming borders - everything is connected
Already the Europe monument has made thoughtful. Here, where the Westwall once stood, peace reigns today, Europe is lived. Where once smugglers and customs officers stared at each other, today the borders are open. And where mill weirs once separated the Our into small sections, brook trout can once again migrate to their spawning grounds. In short, where the Our once divided, it has become a unifying element, a symbol of peace, prosperity and friendship.
At three places of leisure, the route invites you to linger and come down. Listen to Fario, the talkative brook trout! And get to know water: as a special element, as a powerful, patient creator and as a vein and place of life.
