Predigtstuhl
Bollendorf
The Predigtstuhl rises up like a pillar and is reminiscent of a pulpit in a church. This now isolated rock tower slid down from the rock face behind it more than 10,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age. At that time, water from rain or snow penetrated the rock at the top, froze, expanded and virtually blasted off this block of rock, which then slid down onto the clayey subsoil.
It is assumed that the tower is still moving, invisible to the naked eye, and will continue to slide towards the valley over time.
You can visit the Predigstuhl during a hike through the "Green Hell" on the circular hiking trail no. 55 of the Southern Eifel Nature Park. Download the app for the Green Hell listening tour and you will also receive interesting background information.
