Schloss Niederweis

Niederweis

The coat of arms of the former lordship of Niederweis above the grand staircase of the main portal and the keystone with the year of construction 1751 are two of the few testimonies to the history of this small country castle. It was built for Franz Eduard Anton Baron von der Heyden, born in Niederweis in 1693 and later the highest-ranking official of the Luxembourg region as the president of the provincial council.

The last Baron von der Heyden, Clemens Wenzeslaus, died unmarried in 1840. He bequeathed his entire estate to the Bitburg district for the education of orphaned children and the care of poor elderly individuals. Castle Niederweis was leased several times and gradually lost its original character until it was purchased by a private individual in 2005, who lovingly restored the castle, the garden, and the outbuildings in meticulous detail.

Faithfully furnished interiors, a castle restaurant and café, a wedding room, and numerous rooms for celebrations make Castle Niederweis a special attraction.

Cultural events regularly take place at Castle Niederweis, and the rooms and castle grounds can also be rented for celebrations of all kinds. And of course, the country castle is a popular venue for weddings.
